Last Minute Getaways

Are you looking for an escape from the rat race?  Or maybe dreaming of a place to rekindle your romance?  Getting away can be almost as stressful as staying home but not if you are grabbing a cabin in the Northeast Georgia mountains!  It’s a surefire way to re-energize your ambitions, spend some quality time with those you love or even take some much needed down time just for yourself.  It appears that even last minute decisions can be accommodated and if it’s what you are looking for, it can be an incredible surprise for your loved ones.

I recently had the pleasure of spending an evening with one of the co-owners of the Black Bear Cabin Rental Management Company and am enchanted with the idea of hibernating with friends or family in one of these wonderful and relaxing cabins or chalets. After taking a close look at the services they offer, the whimsical and comfortable accommodations and the simply gorgeous views, I realized there really is a slice of “peace on earth” for everyone. These vacations offer something for everyone - and they're pet friendly!. My personal favorite I think is Billy Bear's Bluff but only because of the outdoor fireplace along with the hot tub and hammock. I dream of sitting in the rocking chair on the porch, enjoying the outdoor fireplace while relishing the views of the beautiful mountains that seem so close you could touch them. Of course, the pool table in the basement, the DVD in the master bedroom and the hot tub on the other porch make it an especially attractive find for almost anyone. But there are so many options, I’m not sure I won’t have to go back time and again to try out all of the cabins and get a feel for the many and varied options available.

Worried that even the hot tub and pool table won’t keep you entertained for a whole week? Not to worry, these cabins are nestled at the center of the best that the Blue Ridge Mountains has to offer. The best hiking, biking and canoeing - is just minutes away in Amicolola Falls – the highest falls in the Eastern United States, some of the best rafting in the USA is down the Hiawassee river, fun shopping is just over in Helen. You can pan for gold in Cherokee and Murphy and see great country music shows in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. If you are lucky enough to be there during a winter freeze, driving the parkway and seeing the huge ice formations that drip down the sides of the mountains and the old wooden flue erected to carry water to generate electricity are an even more amazing sight – guaranteed to give you a real perspective of our lives here on earth. Dahlonega isn’t too far away either and is billed as the jewel of northeast Georgia. Dahlonega is home of the Smith House, a wonderful home style restaurant that will give you a true taste of the south while feeding your spirit as well as your appetite. But if gourmet cuisine is your thing, you’ll find that in abundance as well.

Go horseback riding through the foothills or just pick your spot and go fishing (of course if fishing is your favorite "thing" you might want to check out the "Above the River" cabin that boosts a stream right under the overhanging porch!).
